Waqf Law in Action: Massive Property Verification Drive Begins in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal (Waqf Law): Even before the new Waqf law brought in by the central government officially comes into effect, the verification of Waqf properties has already begun in Madhya Pradesh. In Bhopal alone, the verification of 777 properties across 81 villages has been completed. In total, 14,986 Waqf land properties are set to be reviewed across the state. As per the updated Waqf law, verifying Waqf-owned land has now become mandatory. At the same time, the powers of the Waqf Board have been reduced. Itβs being said that this change in MP could impact properties worth thousands of crores. All 14,986 properties registered under the Waqf name in the state are now falling under this law. Verified data to be added to official records Once verified, the property details will be entered into official records. This whole process is being carried out with help from the Revenue Department. In the state capital, Bhopal, this drive has already started. District Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh shared that a survey is underway to identify Waqf properties, and all related information will soon be uploaded to an online portal.
Waqf properties in 81 villages of Bhopal district Just in Bhopal district alone, there are 777 Waqf properties, including plots, houses, land, and other assets. These properties are spread across 81 villages in the Huzur, Berasia, and Kolar tehsils. The survey here was done with the help of local patwaris (revenue officers), and details like current tenants and who holds possession of the land have been noted down. These checks are part of the changes introduced through the revised law. 23,118 Waqf properties in MP According to the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board, there are a total of 23,118 Waqf properties across the state. This includes houses, shops, and other public or commercial buildings. As per the rules, the Waqf Board is supposed to manage these properties and ensure that any income from them is properly recorded. Disputed properties to be verified too Under the new changes in the law, if the Waqf Board claims ownership of any property, it will now be compulsory to verify it. Also, in cases where thereβs a property dispute between the Board and a private individual, a proper verification process will have to be carried out.
