When will you get a refund if the train is late – If your train is more than 3 hours late, you can claim a refund for your ticket. The rule of the Railways is that if the train is running 3 hours or more late from its scheduled time and you want to cancel your journey, you can get a full refund of the ticket.
Necessary conditions for refund – But, there are some conditions too. For example, if you have booked a Tatkal ticket and it has been confirmed, then you will not get any refund on cancelling it. That is, there is no provision for refund on Tatkal ticket. Apart from this, if you cancel your journey after booking the ticket, you will get a refund as per the general rules, which depends on the type of ticket. To get a refund of the ticket, you have to file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt). You can file it online by visiting the official website of IRCTC. You will get a refund within 4-5 days of filing TDR. To complete this process, you have to provide your ticket information and other necessary details. Be patient till the refund process is completed and keep checking your refund status on the IRCTC website from time to time.
Important points – In case of train delay, immediately contact the railway helpline or station officials. Read the terms and conditions of the railways carefully before canceling the ticket.
