Take necessary steps to conserve Bhopal’s big pond: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that Bhopal’s Bada Talab is a part of our rich heritage, necessary steps should be taken for its conservation by conducting a survey. Action should be taken against illegal constructions happening around Bada Talab and structures blocking the water coming from Sehore to Bada Talab. All responsible officers should be alert towards the construction activities happening around Bhopal Talab and take immediate action against them. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav gave these instructions in the review meeting of the Environment Department held at the Chief Minister’s residence. Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Chief Minister’s Office Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Secretary Environment Mr. Navneet Mohan Kothari and other officers were present in the meeting.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that to keep the rivers and other water structures of the state free from pollution, there is a need to be vigilant towards the industrial units around them. It should be ensured that the discharge from the industrial units is treated in the plant itself, this system should also be applicable to big hotels. In the meeting, instructions were given to continuously monitor the quality of water of Kshipra and Kanh rivers in view of Simhastha-2028 and to run special activities for public awareness in this regard. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that universities should also be associated to study the condition of aquatic life, aquatic vegetation and water quality in water structures. It is necessary to control the mining activities taking place around the rivers. Along with this, the responsibility of the urban body and Panchayat and Rural Development Department should be determined to fill the pits left after mining. The places left after mining can be developed as ponds, this will also improve the water level of the surrounding area.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that under the National Clean Air Program, special efforts should be made to improve the air quality of Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Dewas and Sagar as well as Singrauli and Mandideep. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that to motivate farmers not to burn stubble for improving air quality, campaigns should be run with the Environment Department and Agriculture Department. To reduce dust and pollution in urban areas, special care should be taken in construction activities and the use of ready mix concrete should be encouraged. He also stressed the need to be alert towards pollution caused by old vehicles.
It was informed in the meeting that efforts are being made to notify 10 ponds of the state namely Bhoj Wetland Bhopal, Sirpur Wetland and Yashwant Sagar of Indore, Sakhya Sagar, Jadhav Sagar and Madhav Sagar of Shivpuri, Sita Sagar of Datia, Sindh Sagar of Ashoknagar, Amrit Sagar of Ratlam and Sagar pond of Sagar as per the provisions of wetland rules. Madhya Pradesh is among the first five states of the country in terms of number of Ramsar sites. According to Wetland Atlas-2021, the work of physical verification and demarcation of 13 thousand 565 wetlands in the state is in progress.
