IPL Match Turns Into Betting Ground, Three Arrested in Jabalpur

Jabalpur (Jabalpur News): The Crime Branch raided a spot on the Katangi-Patna bypass where betting on IPL matches was going on. Three bookies were caught red-handed during the raid. The police had received a tip-off that illegal IPL betting was taking place at the residence of Hukumchand Patel on the Katangi link road near the bypass. On Wednesday night, the police reached the location to check things out. There, they found three young men who were constantly talking on their phones. They were taking bets on the IPL match being played between Gujarat and Rajasthan. The police recovered eight mobile phones used for placing bets, one laptop, and ₹33,500 in cash from the spot. All of it was seized. The arrested men have been identified as Anand Jain from Kotwali Dharahai Sarafa, Nikhil Jain from Bada Fuhara Tilak Bhumi Talaiya, and Rakesh Jain.
The house was taken on rent The three accused are experienced in running such betting operations. They had rented a room on the first floor of Hukumchand’s house. To avoid getting caught, they were using SIM cards registered in someone else’s name. Police have seized the mobile phones and other items used in the betting activities. Another bookie caught in Hanumantal In a separate case, one more bookie was arrested in the Hanumantal police station area. The Crime Branch had received information that betting was going on near the government well in the area. Acting quickly, City Superintendent of Police Sunil Nema from Gohalpur Nagar directed immediate action. The police team reached the spot to investigate. Behind Sevak Kirana Store on Marghtai Road near the government well, they found a man writing down bets. A group of people was gathered around him. Police arrested the man, who was identified as 54-year-old Suresh Gupta, a local resident.
