World News: International Level of democracy increased in India after 2019
With a huge decline in the democracy index, Pakistan has reached the category of dictatorial rule countries, while China is even further behind. India is included in the category of flawed democratic countries with 41st rank in the list of 167 countries.
Economic Intelligence, the research body of the British newspaper The Economist, on Friday presented its annual report Democracy Index on democracy in the world. It has been said in the report that since this report started being prepared in 2006, democracy at the global level is at its lowest level.
The report claims that only 8 percent of the world’s population lives in countries where there is complete democracy. Whereas, 40 percent of the population is living in countries under dictatorial rule. In the report, countries have been divided into four categories of full democracy, democracy with flaws, dictatorship and hybrid (neither democracy, nor dictatorship).
Pakistan’s ranking slipped 11 places
In comparison to last year (2022), Pakistan has slipped 11 places to 118th position in the ranking of Democracy Index. Pakistan, which calls itself the fifth largest democracy in the world, has a score of 3.25, which falls in the dictatorship category. At the same time, contrary to the allegations of decline in democracy since PM Narendra Modi came to power, India’s score has been continuously increasing since 2019. Norway has topped the list. After this comes New Zealand, Iceland and Sweden.
