Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Rituraj Gaikwad blamed his team’s fielding as the main reason for the defeat after their recent loss against Punjab Kings. This is CSK’s fourth consecutive loss in IPL 2025, and Gaikwad made it clear that it was not the lack of bowling or batting, but the mistakes in fielding that have hurt the team.
Lack of fielding – Gaikwad said that the team’s fielders missed five important chances, which affected the result of the match. He said, “We have lost the last four matches due to poor fielding. The catches that we are dropping, the same batsmen are scoring 15, 20, 30 runs extra.” It is clear that fielding needs to be improved, as it could have helped the team save the runs needed to win.
Positivity in batting – However, Gaikwad also showed positivity about batting. He said, “Our two best batsmen, Rachin and Conway, batted well in the powerplay.” He also pointed out that the team was short of some good hits and Devon playing in the top order could prove to be very useful.
Importance of fielding – Gaikwad stressed on the importance of fielding and said, “If you are nervous, you will drop catches. To be a great fielder, you have to save those two-three catches and run outs.” He also said that there can be bad days in batting and bowling, but this should not happen in fielding.
