Hope of a permanent house – now it has come true

Bhopal. Rain brings happiness to everyone. But people living in kutcha houses get scared by the sound of rain. Mrs. Rania Bai Kol, who lives in Ward No. 23 of Shahdol city, also used to live in a kutcha hut. Many of her generations lived in this hut-like house and passed away in the hope of getting a permanent house. But now Rania Bai’s luck has turned. She has been approved for a permanent house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The house was ready in no time and now she lives happily in this house with her family.

Recalling her bitter days, Rania Bai, who runs her family by doing daily wage labour, says that earlier she used to live in a hut with her family. When it rained heavily, water used to drip from the roof of the hut at many places. Household items were protected by covering them with polythene sheets. There was also a fear of the hut collapsing in case of heavy rain. Many times snakes and scorpions would fall from the roof and scare everyone. Then she would think that if only she too had a concrete house. When she got the information, she applied for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. After being eligible, she got a concrete house. The concrete house has relieved her from all the problems of cold, heat, rain, hail and frost.
