Prasar Bharati today announced that it will telecast the T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and USA on DD Free Dish platform from 2nd June. Doordarshan will telecast several major global international sporting events after the high-level coverage of the T20 World Cup. This includes Paris Olympic Games 2024 (26th July-11th August 2024), Paris Paralympic Games (28th August-8th September 2024), International Cricket Series between India vs Zimbabwe (6th July-14th July 2024) and India vs Sri Lanka (27th July-7th August 2024) and live/postponed live and highlights of the Women’s and Men’s Finals of French Open 2024 (8th & 9th June 2024) and Wimbledon 2024 (13th & 14th July 2024).
This announcement was made by Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi during an interaction with the media in New Delhi today. During the interaction, Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, along with Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal, Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi and Doordarshan Director General Ms Kanchan Prasad launched a special song ‘Jazbaa’ sung by Shri Sukhwinder Singh for the T20 World Cup. The Secretary also launched the promo of the mega T20 event narrated in the voice of renowned story teller Nilesh Mishra.
It is notable that Doordarshan has tied up with leading global sports bodies like NBA and PGTA to showcase their content on DD Sports. Matches of NBA’s popular e-sports property NBA 2K League are telecast on DD Sports channel.
Prasar Bharati is in advanced stages of discussions with various sports bodies and agencies to showcase various sports leagues and events on its sports channel. As soon as we finalise these partnerships, we will inform the media about the same.
Gaurav Dwivedi also informed the gathering about the elaborate arrangements made by Doordarshan and All India Radio for the vote counting process on Tuesday.
Over the past year, DD Sports telecasted several sporting events held across the country. This included the Ashtalakshmi Khelo India University Games (eight states of Northeast), Khelo India Youth Games in Tamil Nadu, National Games in Goa, Khelo India Para Games in New Delhi and the inaugural edition of Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg and Leh. Apart from telecasting them on DD Sports, the feed of these games was shared with leading private channels in the country like Star Sports, Jio Cinema and Sony Network.
Doordarshan team produced the world feed of cricket matches- both men and women cricket matches of Hangzhou Asian Games in China. The world feed produced by the DD team from ground zero was telecasted in several countries in Asia.
Doordarshan had the television broadcast rights for all platforms for the Indian cricket team’s tour of West Indies in August, 2023. Apart from commentary in English and Hindi, feeds of the limited overs matches played in the series were also produced in regional languages like Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Kannada and were telecasted on various regional channels of the Doordarshan Network.
