Delhi High Court: We Will Not Treat You Differently', To Arvind Kejriwal On His Bail Plea.
The Delhi High Court held a hearing on a bail plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is involved in a legal battle with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over the excise policy case. During the hearing, the court remarked that they would not give any special treatment to the Delhi Chief Minister, emphasizing the need for equal treatment under the law.
The bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Arora, was considering Kejriwal’s petition challenging the ED’s summons in connection with an ongoing investigation into the excise policy case. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 as part of this investigation.
In addition to challenging the summons, Kejriwal also questioned the constitutionality of certain provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He argued that these provisions could potentially infringe upon individual rights concerning arrest, interrogation, and the granting of bail.
During the hearing, the High Court’s statement of not treating Kejriwal differently underlined the importance of applying the law uniformly, regardless of a person’s position or status. The outcome of this case could have broader implications, as it raises important questions about the balance between law enforcement and individual rights.
