Action started from Mumbai – On May 31, Mumbai Police arrested two people in Thane with 11 grams of MDMA. During interrogation, these people told that two people named Monu Gupta and Kunal Kohli work to make MDMA in Thal area of Pithoragarh near the Nepal border. These people had built a factory where MDMA was made and supplied to Mumbai and other states. After this, Maharashtra Police started investigating this matter in collaboration with Uttarakhand and UP Police.
Raid and recovery in Pithoragarh – On June 26, Mumbai Police raided a poultry farm in collaboration with the police of Thal police station of Pithoragarh. Precursor chemicals were recovered from here, but no accused was caught. According to the police, the chemical recovered in Nanakmatta was used to make MDMA in large quantities. Its price in the international market is around Rs 12 crore. From this, one can guess how big this racket was.
Mastermind of the gang – SSP STF Navneet Bhullar said that Kunal Kohli is the mastermind of this drugs network. He along with his associates first ran a drugs factory in Gandakhli and then in Thal of Pithoragarh. This gang was connected to the Nepal border and was doing this illegal work for a long time.
