Tapi Basin Mega Recharge Project will write a new chapter of groundwater storage in the whole world: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Bhopal : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that “Tapi Basin Mega Recharge Project” is the world’s largest groundwater recharge project. This is a unique project which will write a new chapter of groundwater recharge in the whole world. This will increase the groundwater level of a large area of ​​the state, especially Nimar, and it will prove to be life-giving for it. This will develop irrigation facilities in about 01 lakh 23 thousand hectares of Madhya Pradesh and 2 lakh 37 hectares of Maharashtra. It is a matter of good fortune that today the MoU of this project has been signed with the Maharashtra government. We have moved forward in the direction of the mega recharge scheme which was stuck for decades. Earlier also, the projects of Ken-Betwa and Parvati Kali Sindh Chambal projects which were stuck for decades have been approved. After the MoU, both the state governments will request the Government of India to approve the Tapti Mega Recharge Scheme as an interstate national irrigation project.

In a program organized at Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Center, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Fadnavis signed the MoU for the “Tapi Basin Mega Recharge” project on Saturday. Earlier, in the 28th meeting of the “Madhya Pradesh Maharashtra Inter-State Control Board” at Mantralaya Vallabh Bhavan, discussions were held and decisions were taken regarding the “Tapti Basin Mega Recharge” project and other irrigation projects of both the states. State Water Resources Minister Mr. Tulsiram Silawat, Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Mr. Girish Mahajan, Tribal Welfare Minister Mr. Kunwar Vijay Shah, MP Mr. V.D. Sharma, former Minister Mrs. Archana Chitnis, Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary, Chief Minister’s Office and Water Resources Department Dr. Rajesh Rajoura and senior officials of Maharashtra Government and State Government were present in the program.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that our Madhya Pradesh is the home of rivers and more than 247 rivers flow here. Our water bodies have immense depth. For the last 25 years, many interstate projects of Madhya Pradesh were not able to move forward due to lack of mutual agreement between the states. Under the leadership of the successful Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, all these projects have now gained momentum. After the Parvati Kalisindh Chambal Project with the Rajasthan Government and the Ken Betwa Link Project with the Uttar Pradesh Government, the “Tapi Basin Mega Recharge Project” with the Maharashtra Government will prove to be a milestone for the development of not only the concerned states but the entire country.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that now we will go to Prime Minister Mr. Modi to declare it a national project like Parvati Kalisindh Chambal and Ken Betwa Link Project and I am confident that he will accept our point. Like these two projects, 90% amount for this project will also be given by the central government. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav expressed gratitude on the arrival of Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Fadnavis.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis said that for many decades, many interstate river projects in India were stuck due to lack of mutual agreement between the states. After the coming of the government of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, these projects are now taking concrete shape. Due to the activeness of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav in Madhya Pradesh, today after 25 years, the Madhya Pradesh Maharashtra Interstate Control Board meeting has been held and there has been an agreement on the Tapi Basin Mega Recharge Project and other irrigation schemes. This is very beneficial for both the states. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav deserves congratulations for the positive initiative in this direction. The Madhya Pradesh government will work in many areas in collaboration with the Maharashtra government.

Mr Fadnavis said that the Tapi Basin Mega Recharge Project is the world’s largest water recharge scheme which is a wonder of the world. The “Bajada Zone” has been developed in the valley of Tapi river on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra state which runs parallel to the Tapi river and has amazing water recharge capacity. This project will recharge water in a large area of ​​both the states, which will benefit lakhs of farmers. To speed up the work, a meeting of the Inter-State Control Board will be held again in Maharashtra in the coming month of October.

In the meeting of “Madhya Pradesh Maharashtra Interstate Control Board” held in Mantralaya Vallabh Bhawan, it was agreed to sign the MoU of “Tapti Basin Mega Recharge” project. Along with this, the construction of Dangurli Barrage on Banganga River, construction of weir on Bagh River and Lavaghoghri – Totladoh water exchange scheme were also discussed in the meeting, on which an in-principle agreement was reached between the two states.

Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project

Tapi Basin Mega Recharge Project is a joint project of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra states. Irrigation is proposed in 1,23,082 hectares of Madhya Pradesh and 2,34,706 hectares of Maharashtra through this scheme. Groundwater storage will be expanded under the scheme, which will benefit Burhanpur, Nepanagar, Khaknar and Khalwa tehsils of Burhanpur and Khandwa districts of the state.

Mainly four water structures are proposed in the project

  • Low Diversion Weir at Kharia Gutighat Dam Site:- This weir is situated on the border of both the states of Madhya Pradesh

  • It is proposed in Khalwa tehsil of Khandwa district and Amravati tehsil of Maharashtra. Its water storage capacity is proposed to be 8.31 TMC.

  • Right Bank Canal First Phase:- A 221 kilometer long canal is proposed from the right bank of the proposed Kharia Gutighat Weir, of which 110 kilometer will be built in Madhya Pradesh. This canal will irrigate 55 thousand 89 hectares of area in Madhya Pradesh.

  • Left Bank Canal Phase I: – 135.64 km long from the left bank of the proposed Kharia Gutighat Weir

  • A canal is proposed which will be built for 100.42 kilometers in Madhya Pradesh. Irrigation is proposed in 44 thousand 993 hectares of area in Madhya Pradesh through this canal.
