Apples are a good source of vitamins and minerals and they also contain good amounts of vitamin C and vitamin A. Consumption of apples reduces the risk of many diseases. Many experts recommend eating an apple daily. It is believed that one should eat an apple daily to improve the immune system.

Do you know whether the apples available in the market these days are safe or not. The health benefits of apples depend on how they are ripened. Letting them ripen naturally would be the best way. Unfortunately, farmers are ripening apples artificially.

Chemicals are being used to ripen them so that they can be sent to the market much earlier and more profits can be made. Earlier farmers used chemicals on fruit trees to ripen the fruits, but now they are using a new method in which they pluck the fruits from the trees and spray dangerous chemicals on them.

Water test- Wash the apples and collect that water in a glass. If a little calcium carbide has been added, the colour of the water may change from red to purple.

Starch iodine test- Cut an apple and sprinkle iodine on it. If the colour turns dark blue, it means the apple has a high starch content and is not fully ripe.

Naturally ripened apples often have some spots or marks, but artificially ripened apples may look very smooth.

Artificially ripened apples may be very soft, while naturally ripened apples are slightly firm.

Artificial odour: Artificially ripened apples may have an artificial odour compared to natural apples.
