Women of self-help groups are making the village clean by managing waste

Raipur. Women of self-help groups in village Dorki of Bilha block of Bilaspur district are doing the work of keeping the areas around them clean by managing waste. The didis of the group are playing an important role in making organic manure from waste management. With the support given by the government, there has been economic improvement in the lives of the women of the group and they are contributing well to their family responsibilities.

Women of Jai Maa Ambe group of village Dorki, dependent on Gram Panchayat Kevanchi, told that SLWM shed, NAFED and vermi tank have been constructed in the village under MNREGA. Ten lakh 29 thousand rupees were sanctioned from MNREGA for these works. Waste coming out in the form of solid and liquid waste is being managed through the shed. Women of the group are collecting waste from house to house in their three-wheeler and bringing it to the shed and making manure from these wastes.

Residents of Dorki said that the construction of solid and liquid waste management shed has solved the problems related to unhygienic conditions in the village. Now, there is an atmosphere of cleanliness in the village. Solid and liquid waste management work is being done daily by women. Every family in the village has been given blue and green dustbins. Tricycles have been purchased for garbage collection. Jai Maa Ambe group has also taken the initiative to keep the village disease-free. The women of the group are also giving necessary information to the villagers to prevent seasonal diseases by organizing public meetings. The group has an estimated annual income of 30 thousand to 40 thousand rupees from garbage management, organic fertilizer prepared from waste and sale of plastic obtained as solid waste.

The women of the group said that they are very happy with this work. Their standard of living has improved due to the income from this. Earlier, there was an atmosphere of dirt in the village due to garbage being spread here and there and there was a risk of diseases. Solid and liquid waste used to lie in the open everywhere. But now the group is managing the garbage properly. The quality of drinking water in the village has also improved. With the help of the government, self-help groups have got employment and a source of livelihood. This is improving their financial condition.
