Stock Market Ends Year Lower, Sensex Drops 109 Points
Stock Market Close: On the last day of 2024, Tuesday, December 31, the stock market closed lower. By the end of trading, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark index, Sensex, dropped by 109.12 points, finishing at 78,139.01. This decline of 0.14% indicates that investor sentiment was a bit weak. Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) saw its Nifty index remain almost stable, closing at 23,644.80 with just a slight dip of 0.10 points. Top Losers on BSE Sensex: Out of the 30 stocks listed on the BSE Sensex, 15 fell while 15 gained. The biggest loser was Tech Mahindra, whose shares dropped by 2.35%, ending at 1,705.55 rupees per share. On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank saw a gain, with its shares rising by 2.49% to close at 1,786.30 rupees per share.
Adani Enterprises Takes a Hit on NSE: In the NSE’s Nifty index, out of 50 stocks, 28 closed in the green while 22 were in the red. Bharat Electric Limited had the highest gain, increasing by 2.84% to finish at 293 rupees per share. Conversely, Adani Enterprises faced the most significant loss, dropping 2.41% to close at 2,530 rupees per share. Other Asian Markets: In other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s KOSPI did not see any trading. However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s Shanghai Composite had a positive trend. European markets are also showing a positive outlook, while the U.S. markets closed lower on Monday. In the global oil market, Brent crude reached $74.40 per barrel.
