Stealing in Plain Sight: Burqa-Clad Thieves Rob Jewelry Store, Get Arrested

Barwani: Police have cracked the case of a major jewelry theft that took place at a jewelry shop in Sendhwa. Under the direction of SP Jagdish Dawar, three accused were arrested as part of “Operation Hawalat.” Among those caught were a man, his wife, and his mother-in-law.

How the Incident Unfolded

Sendhwa City TI Baljeet Singh Bisen shared details of the case, revealing that the getaway car used for escaping after the theft was also recovered. The thieves were highly skilled and would vanish within minutes of committing a crime. After the theft in Sendhwa, the man fled towards Gujarat, while his wife and mother-in-law escaped to Maharashtra. A police team was formed to track them down, starting with a thorough check of CCTV footage. In the footage, two women wearing burqas were seen inside a suspicious vehicle. With the help of CCTV cameras from Maharashtra and Gujarat, along with the Barwani Cyber Cell, the accused were eventually traced and arrested from Maharashtra.

An Inter-State Gang Busted

According to Inspector Bisen, the trio belonged to an inter-state gang. The arrested individuals were identified as Maqsood, Nazia, and Razia. Maqsood and Nazia are husband and wife, while Razia is Nazia’s mother and Maqsood’s mother-in-law. This gang has been involved in multiple thefts, mainly in Gujarat and Maharashtra. To identify them, the police scanned footage from around 350 CCTV cameras and traveled nearly 1,000 kilometers in a single day. Maqsood was caught in Bardoli, Surat, while Nazia Khan and Razia B Sheikh were arrested in Maharashtra.

Mastermind of the Gang

The leader of this gang is 52-year-old Razia, who already has seven theft cases registered against her in Nagpur, Chandrapur (Maharashtra), and Vapi (Gujarat). Meanwhile, Maqsood has five theft cases filed against him in Surat, Vapi, Vadodara, Nagpur, and Chandrapur.
