Skill Development and Employment Conclave Held at Doon University, CM Dhami Shares Government’s Roadmap
A Skill Development and Employment Conclave was organized at Doon University, attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. During this event, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Generation India and the Government of Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister emphasized that this conclave will play a significant role in opening new doors for skill development among our youth.
He stated that we need to make our young people “future-ready.” To achieve this, agreements have been made with various industries and corporate institutions to provide “demand-based skill training.” The state has introduced long-term courses along with 20 short-term courses at its 13 ITI institutions.
Additionally, a “Center of Excellence” has been established in the electrical field at ITI Kashipur. In collaboration with Philips, another “Center of Excellence” has been set up at ITI Haridwar for the manufacturing sector. An MoU has also been signed with Ashok Leyland, under which the company will provide internships and job opportunities to 1,000 young people each year at their plant.
The Chief Minister mentioned that this conclave will help empower youth according to their potential and inspire them to become self-reliant. He pointed out that the job landscape is changing rapidly, with technological innovations and global shifts creating new employment opportunities. The government is also facilitating training in foreign languages and various skills under the foreign placement policy, so that our youth can compete internationally and secure better job opportunities. In the first phase, 23 youths have been sent to Japan, and plans are underway to send 25 youths to Germany and the UK for nursing.
He added that discussions during this conclave on key growth drivers for the state—such as Ayush, wellness, tourism, horticulture, food processing, forest-based livelihoods, digital marketing, knowledge-based economy, and renewable energy—will yield valuable insights and suggestions for policies aimed at enhancing skill development for the youth in the state.
The Chief Minister further stated that the government is working towards the goal of doubling the state’s gross domestic product (GDP). Over the past two years, the state’s GDP has increased by 1.3 times. He assured that numerous efforts have been made to promote investment in the state.
