Dehradun Police Arrests Burglars; Mastermind Turns Out to Be a Municipal Sanitation Worker
Dehradun Police have arrested two men involved in a house burglary, and shockingly, the mastermind behind the crime turned out to be a municipal sanitation worker. The police not only recovered the stolen items but also seized valuables worth much more than initially reported—an estimated value of over ₹19 lakh. According to the police, Akshay Kapil, a resident of Indiranagar, Vasant Vihar, reported that on February 21, 2025, he and his family had traveled to Roorkee to attend an event. When they returned, they discovered that unknown burglars had broken the window grill and mesh to enter the house and had stolen gold and silver jewelry along with cash. Upon receiving the complaint, the police launched an investigation. During the probe, the police examined footage from 35 CCTV cameras installed around the crime scene and also verified records of recently released criminals who had been involved in similar cases. Their efforts led them to two suspects—Suraj Sahni and Ankit—who were later arrested. Upon searching them, the police recovered stolen gold and silver jewelry along with cash.
During interrogation, Ankit revealed that he works as a sanitation worker for the municipal corporation. On February 21, while cleaning a park near the CBI office in Indiranagar, he noticed the victim and his family leaving home with travel bags. Realizing the house would be empty, he teamed up with his accomplice, Suraj Sahni, to execute the burglary. That night, they broke the window grill and mesh to enter the house and stole valuables. They later hid the stolen items in an abandoned structure near a tea garden. Interestingly, the police discovered that the value of the recovered stolen items far exceeded the victim’s initial report. Instead of just the listed jewelry and cash, they found additional valuables worth approximately ₹19 lakh.
