Recirculation system started in the filter plant premises, the backwash water flowing waste will be sent back to the plant

Raipur. In accordance with the public welfare intention of the Urban Administration and Development Department of Chhattisgarh Government and Raipur District Administration, the operation of the recirculation system built in the filter plant premises at Bhatgaon for water purification plants of 150 MLD and 80 MLD capacity under the Amrit Mission Scheme has been started. On this occasion, Superintendent Engineer of Municipal Corporation Raipur Rajesh Sharma, Executive Engineer Amrit Mission Anshul Sharma, Executive Engineer Filter Plant Nar Singh Farendra along with officials of the agency M/s Indian Hume Pipe Company Limited were present.
Back washing of the filter bed of water purification plants is a continuous process, by which the filter bed is cleaned regularly every day. The water suitable for cleaning the filter bed was drained out through the underground drain pipe after the back washing process. This backwash water used to join the Professor Colony drain outside the filter plant premises located at Bhatgaon. Due to the river water being muddy during the rainy season, the backwashing process of the filter bed of the water purification plants needs to be repeated more than once, due to which a large amount of backwash water drains out of the filter plant premises.

With the start of operation of the recirculation system, the backwash water coming out of both the water purification plants of 150 MLD and 80 MLD capacity is being sent back to the plant, so that the backwash water flowing wastefully is being recycled. On an average, 6 MLD backwash water drains out of the filter plant premises every day from both the water purification plants and this figure reaches 9 MLD in the rainy season. The total capacity of the recirculation system is to conserve 12 MLD backwash water per day. With its operation, such a large amount of water will be conserved every day. Along with this, the submerged areas along the Professor Colony drain will be saved from getting submerged in the rainy season. Under the Amrit Mission Yojana, the newly built 80 MLD capacity water purification plant in the filter plant premises already has provision for recirculation system, due to which backwash water is being recycled from this plant which has been running continuously for more than a year. With the start of operation of the new recirculation system, all the three water purification plants (80 MLD, 150 MLD and new 80 MLD) built in the filter plant premises at Bhatgaon can be called “Zero Waste Water” plants. In the direction of water conservation amid the increasing demand for water and continuously falling water level, the start of recirculation system for Raipur city under a continuous process is being considered an important public welfare work.
