Public drinking water stalls should be started with the help of social organizations: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that in view of the summer season, adequate drinking water arrangements should be ensured for the citizens in the urban and rural areas of the state. Drinking water should also be arranged for passersby by setting up public drinking water stalls with the help of social organizations. Works like availability of drinking water in every locality in cities, cleanliness of water tanks and systematic drinking water distribution should be completed smoothly. The rural population should be benefited by the implementation of tap water schemes in villages. The work of providing water through taps to every house should be completed. In areas where there is a problem of drinking water, the Public Health Engineering Department and local bodies should jointly take action to find a solution for the citizens. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was reviewing the drinking water arrangements in a meeting held at Samatva Bhawan (Chief Minister’s residence) on Monday. Public Health Engineering Mrs. Sampatiya Uike, Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Chief Minister’s Office Dr. Rajesh Rajoura and other senior officials were present in the meeting.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that in the tribal dominated areas of the state, works of drinking water management should also be completed with the cooperation of other departments in Dharti Aaba Utkarsh Abhiyan. In other villages, all arrangements for drinking water should be ensured in the villages declared as Har Ghar Jal under Ekal Gram Nal-Jal Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission. Along with drinking water supply, activities related to cleanliness should also be conducted. The cooperation of the staff of Panchayat and Rural Development and Agriculture Department should also be obtained in the supply of drinking water. The officials of Panchayats and the staff of urban bodies in cities should give top priority to the supply of drinking water. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that by completing the works of cleanliness along with drinking water, the state can be made a model in the country.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav expected the Public Health Engineering Department to play an active role in the Jal Ganga Jal Sanskar Abhiyan. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that a scheme for recharging unused hand pumps to make them useful should also be implemented in the state.

It was informed in the meeting that since the inception of Jal Jeevan Mission in the state, 62 lakh 71 thousand 124 connections have been provided till now. This is 63.81 percent of the total houses of one crore 11 lakh 80 thousand 901 in the state. As of March 16, 2025, tap connections have been provided in 76 lakh 24 thousand 275 houses in the state, this achievement is 68.19 percent. In the state, 23 thousand 164 villages are being benefited through 147 group tap water supply schemes and 27 thousand 990 villages are being benefited through single village tap water schemes. In the state, the maintenance of hand pumps in rural areas is being done by the Public Health Engineering Department and the operation and maintenance of tap water schemes is being done by the concerned Gram Panchayats. 5 lakh 62 thousand 776 hand pumps in the state are helpful in the supply of drinking water.
