PM Awas Yojana: More Financial Assistance for Uttarakhand Residents in the Second Phase
The Prime Minister's Housing Scheme (Urban) is making the dream of homeownership a reality.
PM Awas Yojana: over 34,000 homes have already been built under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme for All (Urban) in Uttarakhand. Now, the state government has signed an agreement with the central government for the second phase of the scheme, which will provide beneficiaries with increased financial assistance. This scheme aims to provide housing to all homeless families living in urban areas.
Families with annual incomes ranging from ₹3 lakh to ₹18 lakh can receive subsidies or grants for housing construction under four different components of the program. In the first phase, the central government approved a total of 64,391 homes in the state. Out of these, 25,976 homes were approved for beneficiary-based construction, and by October, 12,222 homes had already been completed, with work ongoing on the remaining homes. The government has provided a grant of ₹1.50 lakh per home, totaling approximately ₹263.71 crore, while the state government contributes an additional ₹50,000 per home. For the affordable housing component, the central government has approved 15,960 homes, of which 11,384 homes have been allocated, and 1,894 homes have been completed. In this category, the government has also provided a grant of ₹1.50 lakh per home, amounting to ₹161.96 crore, with the state government adding ₹2 lakh per home. This means that the beneficiary’s contribution per home is only ₹3.50 lakh. Additionally, all 19,919 homes approved for loan-based construction have been completed, and interest subsidies have been provided through banks.
Increased Support Now Available – Nitesh Jha, the Secretary of Urban Development, announced that the central government has launched PM Awas Yojana 2.0 this September. The state government has already signed an agreement for this. The central government has increased the grant per home from ₹1.50 lakh to ₹2.25 lakh, meaning beneficiaries will now receive even more support under the scheme. The Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme is providing roofs over the heads of millions of homeless families. In Uttarakhand, thousands of people have already received solid homes through this initiative, with both the central and state governments working together to provide assistance.
