Opposition Stages Protest as Governor Addresses Budget Session, CM Dhami Launches e-Vidhan Application

The Uttarakhand Budget Session kicked off today in Dehradun, with Governor Gurmeet Singh delivering the budget speech. During this, the opposition strongly protested, demanding an extension of the session’s duration. Despite the disruptions, the Governor successfully completed his address. Before the session began, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) in the presence of Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan. This time, the budget session is being conducted through the National e-Vidhan Application.
To make the functioning of the Assembly more digital and paperless, Uttarakhand has adopted the e-Vidhan system. This will allow lawmakers to access the agenda, responses to questions raised in the Assembly, and other documents online. Tablets have been provided at each lawmaker’s desk, and all documents are now available digitally. This initiative not only helps in conserving the environment but also ensures more efficient proceedings in the Assembly. Leader of the Opposition, Yashpal Arya, expressed concern that the state government is not serious about addressing public issues or engaging in meaningful debate in the House. The Congress party has demanded that the session be extended to at least 15 days. During the session, the opposition plans to raise issues such as land laws, smart meters, corruption, disaster management, health, and education. A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, chaired by Yashpal Arya, was held earlier, where members discussed the issues they wish to raise in the Assembly. Arya emphasized that Congress will strongly oppose the reduced duration of the session.
