One district-one product Madhya Pradesh got silver medal

Bhopal: Under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the products of the state are being present in the global markets under the “One District-One Product” scheme.

Madhya Pradesh, presenting evidence of its uniqueness and excellent implementation of schemes, received the Silver Award in the State and Union Territory category in the One District One Product Award 2024. The award was presented by Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal at a grand ceremony at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The award was given in recognition of the effective implementation of One District One Product Scheme in the state, brand building of local products, employment generation, and efforts to promote rural and urban entrepreneurship.

Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta and senior ministers of the Government of India and representatives of various states were also present on the occasion. On behalf of Madhya Pradesh, this prestigious award was received by Smt. Ruhi Khan, Deputy Secretary, Department of Industry, Commerce and Investment Promotion Policy.

The state is now moving from local to global

Under the One District-One Product scheme, products of Madhya Pradesh are getting a global market. The state is moving from local to global. A large group of exporters is being formed at the local level. Many products have received the GI tag, which has increased the global demand for these products. With the growing recognition of handicrafts, agricultural and food products, the living standards of artisans and manufacturers are also improving.

Special products have been included in the ODOP scheme due to their geographical, biological, natural or production characteristics. ODOP scheme is being run in all the districts, which includes green vegetables, coarse grains, craft handloom, handicrafts, equipment. Special encouragement is being given to local artists and products. Geo-graphical Indications (GI) tag has been provided to 19 special products of different districts so far. These include Chanderi Saree, Bagh Print, Nagpuri Orange, Ratlami Sev, Kadaknath Chicken, Chinnor Rice, Boutique Print, Stone Craft, Leather Toy, Bell Metal Ware, Maheshwari Saree, Mahoba Deswari Paan, Morena Gajak, Sundarja Mango, Sharbati Wheat, Gond Painting, Wrought Iron Craft, Handmade Carpet, Handloom Saree of Varasivani. 7 of these products are also included in the ODOP scheme.

Madhya Pradesh has made its mark in the major markets of the world under the “One District-One Product”. Concrete steps have also been taken towards reaching the global market. Products from various districts of the state have received national and international recognition. High quality bananas of Burhanpur, aromatic Basmati rice of Raisen, and the famous Chinour rice of Balaghat are prominent among these products. The identity of the products of Madhya Pradesh is no longer limited, rather they are strengthening the economic progress, employment opportunities and export potential of the state.

“One District-One Product Scheme has now become a people’s participation based movement. Artisans, women groups, FPOs, startups and local entrepreneurs have played an active role in it. The state government has taken several steps towards making One District-One District Product from local to global. Product based training, branding and packaging improvement, digitization and logistics support to encourage exports are also being provided by the state government.

Madhya Pradesh is not only a land of culture and crafts, but is also an emerging industrial and exporting state. This achievement of the Madhya Pradesh government is realizing the vision of “from local hands to global platform” and is a strong step towards self-reliant India.

The state has so many diverse products that can be taken to the global level. “One District, One Product” is a unique initiative and is not like this in any other country. Each district has its own distinct heritage. Work is being done on the branding and quality of the products. Packaging and branding are being improved so that the products get respect worldwide for their high quality. ODOP will help in promoting tourism.

A best practices compendium has been prepared to help learn and emulate ways to promote ODOP products. The central government has identified over 1,200 unique products from over 750 districts, spanning sectors such as agriculture, food processing, handloom, handicrafts, etc. These efforts are aimed at value addition, promoting marketing and linking local products to global markets.

ODOP Walls have been set up in Singapore, New York, Vancouver, Milan, Kuwait, Bahrain and Japan. ODOP products are now available at retail outlets such as Mustafa Centre and Centre Point Mall in Singapore. A total of 641 applications were received for the ODOP Awards through the National Awards Portal between April 1 and June 11, 2024. These included 587 entries from districts, 31 from States/UTs and 23 from Indian Missions abroad.
