During this, Senior Superintendent of Police Raipur Dr. Lal Umed Singh said in his address that earlier traffic week is organized, now it has turned into a month but in view of road accidents in which people are dying prematurely day by day, it seems that Road Safety Year will have to be celebrated. The problem of accidents is very serious because India ranks second in the world in terms of population but ranks first in the number of deaths in road accidents. Last year, 163000 people died and 446000 people were injured in about 5 lakh accidents in India. In the year 2023, 507 people died in Raipur district and in the year 2024, the number of deaths increased to 594, which is an increase of 17 percent in the number of deaths, which is a matter of serious concern. Every person’s life is important, which we all have to save. The 4 main causes of road accidents are over speeding, drunk driving, seat belt and helmet. If we follow even a little of these four rules, then we can reduce human deaths to a great extent. When we go out on the road, it should be ensured that we compulsorily follow the traffic rules, only then accidents can be reduced. During this, the Senior Superintendent of Police announced that any student who works as a traffic warden for 100 hours with the traffic police to maintain traffic system, the Rs. 1000 required for lifetime membership of the Red Cross Society will be borne by him (SSP) of Raipur.

During this, Raipur Collector Shri Gaurav Singh said in his address that one should not follow the rules just by seeing the traffic police but take a decision yourself and resolve that now I will never violate the traffic rules and will also inspire my family members to drive by following the rules, only then we can establish a safe traffic system. The traffic police is making every effort to get the rules followed at its level, but due to the drivers not being serious about the traffic rules, they are losing their lives in road accidents for no reason. Before others change, we have to change ourselves. We have made helmets and seat belts compulsory for all the people coming to the Collectorate premises, all of you can stay safe by taking such a resolution in your family and gradually improve the whole society. We all have to work together in this direction. He told the present NGOs, traffic police and students, teachers that the work you people are doing is the work of saving people’s lives, there can be no bigger work than this. If this effort of yours continues throughout the year, then you will definitely succeed in reducing the number of people dying in road accidents. Collector Gaurav Singh told the traffic officials that the student who will serve as a traffic warden for a month should be linked to the Red Cross Society and get them a certificate, which will be useful for them in future for studying and working abroad.
