Madhya Pradesh Govt Allocates ₹30 Crore for Ujjain’s 84 Mahadev Temples Renovation

Ujjain: Preparations Begin for Ujjain’s Simhastha 2028, Focus on Development of 84 Mahadev Temples Ujjain, the city of faith and devotion, has started gearing up for the grand Simhastha 2028. Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Additional Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, has been actively holding meetings with officials for the past two days to outline the planning process. While key discussions are being held on Shipra river bathing arrangements, crowd management at Mahakal Temple, and overall logistics, another significant focus is on revamping the city’s ancient temples—especially the 84 Mahadev temples located in Mahakal Van. The Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) has proposed a comprehensive plan worth approximately ₹30 crore to restore and enhance these sacred temples, ensuring a better experience for devotees. Thousands of Devotees Visit 84 Mahadev Temples Every Year** According to UDA’s Chief Executive Officer, Sandeep Kumar Soni, the development of the 84 Mahadev temples is a top priority. Every year, thousands of devotees from across India visit these temples, and during special occasions like Shravan and Adhik Maas, a dedicated 84 Mahadev Darshan Yatra is organized.

To improve the experience for these pilgrims, a holistic plan is being implemented, including expert consultations and architectural studies to design the temple renovations effectively.

What’s in the Development Plan? After extensive discussions, the proposed plan includes:
– Restoration and beautification of temples
– Development of open spaces around the temples
– Construction of boundary walls and approach roads
– Painting, lighting, landscaping, and drainage improvements

Each temple will be upgraded based on its specific requirements, ensuring the overall preservation and enhancement of the entire temple complex. Previous Restoration Efforts During Simhastha 2016 A similar initiative was undertaken during Simhastha 2016, where several temple premises were renovated. The ancient temples, primarily built from black stone, had their spires repainted and minor repair works carried out. This time, however, the restoration process will begin well in advance to ensure quality and durability in the renovations. A Glimpse of 84 Mahadev Temples at Republic Day Celebration. Under the guidance of Maharaj Vikramaditya Research Institute’s director, Shriram Tiwari, a special tableau showcased a short film depicting the golden era of King Bhojdev and the spiritual heritage of these temples.

This representation further confirms that the development of the 84 Mahadev temples is a key priority for the Madhya Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.
