Bhopal: Datia is set to become Madhya Pradesh’s eighth operational airport, as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially granted its license. With this approval, air connectivity between Bhopal and Datia could be established soon. FlyBig is planning to include Datia in its summer schedule.
Flights from Datia to Start Soon
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that Satna and Datia airports will be inaugurated soon, after which commercial flights for passengers will begin. Recently, flights from Rewa Airport have also started operating, and now Datia is next in line.
Madhya Pradesh’s Expanding Air Network
According to Airport Director Ramji Awasthi, FlyBig has already secured a flight slot for Datia. The airline is expected to include Datia flights in its summer schedule from April. Currently, it is also operating a flight on the Rewa route. Before September 2024, Madhya Pradesh had only five functional airports in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khajuraho, and Gwalior. On September 9, 2024, Rewa Airport received a Category 3-C license, and its inauguration was conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20, 2024. Later, Satna Airport also received a license, and now Datia has been added to the list.
Datia Airport Infrastructure and Facilities
The Datia Airport has been developed over 118 acres of land. Its runway is 1,810 meters long and 30 meters wide, capable of handling 100 passengers per hour. The airport is equipped with modern facilities like X-ray machines, CCTV security, baggage handling systems, and passenger amenities. Additionally, a fire station has been built for safety measures. The upcoming inauguration of Satna and Datia airports is expected to boost regional connectivity, making air travel more accessible in the state.
