Kanpur Test may be cancelled? UP government calls it a ‘big threat’ ahead of second Test
The upcoming Test match between India and Bangladesh to be held at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium may be in jeopardy due to security concerns. The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has raised concerns over the structure of one of the stands in the stadium, due to which the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has limited the sale of tickets.
India and Bangladesh will play the second Test of their two-match series in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1. The match will be played at the city’s Green Park Stadium. The Indian cricket team has already arrived and will start its practice soon.
India are leading the match 1-0 thanks to a stunning 280-run win in the first Test in Chennai last week. The Rohit Sharma-led side once again prevented Bangladesh from securing their first Test win against India.
According to the information, as a precaution, only 1,700 tickets will be sold for the 4,800-capacity stand. UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee confirmed that the PWD has identified some problems, and repair work will continue for the next few days. The decision prioritises the safety of fans.
Nevertheless, the stadium’s infrastructure and maintenance are being examined following the latest reports on the dangerous stands. The stadium is owned by the Uttar Pradesh government’s sports department, and is not directly under the UPCA or BCCI.
