ISRO scientists had predicted the Uttarkashi disaster a year ago, was the report ignored?

Uttarakhand’s Silent Warning: A Devastating Cloudburst

A Tragedy Foretold?-The recent devastation in Uttarkashi wasn’t entirely unexpected. A year prior, ISRO scientists submitted a report to the Uttarakhand Disaster Management Authority. This report highlighted melting glaciers on Shrikanth Mountain, forming small ponds in the valley. The report warned of a potential major disaster if these issues were ignored. Shockingly, this report is now reportedly missing. This raises serious questions about preparedness and response to early warnings.

August 5th: A Day of Destruction-On August 5th, cloudbursts in Dharali, Sukki Top, and Harsil brought utter chaos to Uttarkashi. Homes, restaurants, and homestays were swept away in an instant. Hundreds were affected, many remain missing, and sadly, five deaths have been confirmed. Chief Minister Dhami immediately ordered rescue operations, while Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah pledged support, assuring aid and monitoring the situation closely.

Rescue Efforts Underway-A glimmer of hope emerged on the third day. As the weather cleared, the Air Force rescued 657 people. Rescue efforts are ongoing in Harsil, Nelang, and Matali, with eight Air Force helicopters actively involved. Chief Minister Dhami is personally overseeing the operations and visiting affected areas to assess the situation and provide comfort to those impacted.

Relief and Rehabilitation Efforts-Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed officials to prioritize relocating affected villagers to safe locations and to swiftly assess the damage caused by the rainfall. The government is committed to supporting the people and is taking all necessary steps to restore normalcy. The Chief Minister is personally monitoring the situation and ensuring the smooth execution of relief efforts.
