Hindi’s role in agricultural journalism is very important: Professor Sharma
Raipur. A one-day seminar on the topic “Role of Hindi in Agricultural Journalism” was organized at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University on Monday at the conclusion of Hindi Pakhwada 2024. The chief guest of the seminar was Prof. Baldev Bhai Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Kushabhau Thackeray Journalism and Mass Communication University, Raipur. Prof. Sharma said that since most of the population of India is dependent on agriculture, agriculture is very important in the economy here and since the language of communication of most of the population is Hindi, the role of Hindi agricultural journalism is very important here.
The program was presided over by Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. As special speakers, senior journalists Shashank Sharma, Sameer Dewan and Prafulla Pare highlighted the possibilities, opportunities and challenges of agricultural journalism for the students of agriculture. The seminar was organized under the joint aegis of the Dean Student Welfare and Rajbhasha Hindi Cell of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University. On this occasion, an MoU was signed between Indira Gandhi Agricultural University and Kushabhau Thackeray University of Journalism and Mass Communication for mutual cooperation in education and research. Journalists who brought the latest knowledge and technology of agriculture to farmers and the general public were also honored at the ceremony.
Addressing the seminar, Prof. Sharma said that the traditions of India are based on agriculture and Rishi culture. Agriculture is not only a means of food production for us, but it is the sanskar of our life. Agriculture has been given a high status in India. He said that journalism and agriculture are complementary to each other in an agricultural country like India. He said that students of agriculture can adopt agricultural journalism and spread the latest agricultural research and technology to farmers. Apart from this, they can also work to convey the problems related to farmers to the government and responsible officials. They can also create a national level discussion about government policies related to agriculture, challenges in crop production due to climate change and other reasons, and market problems.
