Governor's Unit Citation Award given to Army's 97 Field Regiment
Bhopal: Governor Mangubhai Patel presented the Unit Citation Award to the 97 Field Regiment of the Army for its heroic and courageous efforts for relief and rescue in the flood affected areas of Madhya Pradesh. Governor Mangubhai Patel appreciated the contribution of the 97 Field Regiment in establishing the Army’s commitment to the motto of “Seva Paramo Dharma” at a solemn ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan. The citation was given to the Commanding Officer of the unit, Colonel Devmalya Mukherjee and Subedar Major Devendra Kumar.
Governor Mangubhai Patel has conferred the “Governor’s Commendation Card” to the unit of 97 Field Regiment for its outstanding performance in flood relief and rescue operations in Datia and Gwalior districts. It is noteworthy that 97 Field Regiment had performed excellently in flood relief operations in Datia and Gwalior districts of the state. The regiment carried out courageous night operations crossing the strong currents of the river. Operations were conducted to rescue the citizens trapped in submerged houses in Kali Sindh, Parvati and Naun rivers. During this, more than 70 citizens were rescued safely. 100 citizens including women, children and elderly were relocated. During a period of three days, the rescue team succeeded in rescuing the villagers of Nunhari, Indargarh and Pavaya villages with efficient allocation of resources and tireless work. Similarly, despite the breaking of the lake and the rising water, the residents of the distressed Aman Colony of Datia were evacuated to safer places. The soldiers of the Army’s 97 Field Regiment unit, along with saving lives, also lit a ray of hope among the people devastated by the disaster. The unit’s success has set a powerful example of the Army’s vital role in disaster relief operations.
