Global fossil fuel emissions will reach record levels this year

According to a new research by international scientists, India’s fossil fuel emissions are expected to increase by 4.6 percent this year. At the same time, there may be a marginal increase of 0.2 percent in China.

Report presented at COP29
Let us tell you, the report of the recent research was presented at the United Nations Climate Conference COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. It states that global carbon emissions from fossil fuels could reach 37.4 billion tonnes, an increase of 0.8 percent from 2023 levels.

More than last year
Not only this, this year the level of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) is estimated to reach 422.5 ppm. This could make it the hottest year ever. This is 2.8 ppm more than last year and 52 percent more than the level before the Industrial Revolution.

We still see no signs…

Professor Pierre Friedlingstein from Exeter’s Global Systems Institute, who led the study, commented on the ongoing rise in fossil fuel consumption despite the effects of climate change. He said that the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly dramatic, yet we still see no signs that the burning of fossil fuels has peaked.
