From energy to housing: Delhi CM Dhami appeals to the Center for big decisions

Uttarakhand Seeks Major Boost in Infrastructure and Energy-Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has made significant requests to the central government, aiming to propel the state’s infrastructure and energy sectors forward. These proposals cover a wide range of projects, from hydroelectric power to improved urban housing.

Powering Progress: Hydroelectric Projects and Grid Modernization-Dhami has requested ₹7,800 crore in viability gap funding for hydroelectric and pumped storage projects. These projects, particularly in remote areas of Kumaon and the Upper Yamuna region, promise to significantly increase the state’s energy capacity and drive local economic growth. Additionally, plans are underway to bury and automate power lines in Haridwar and Rishikesh, enhancing safety, aesthetics, and the overall tourist experience.

Infrastructure Investments: A Multi-pronged Approach-Two key projects under the Power System Development Fund, totaling ₹1,007.82 crore, await approval. The Chief Minister has appealed for 100% grant funding for these crucial initiatives, which will strengthen Uttarakhand’s power infrastructure. Furthermore, Dhami advocates for reforms to the PM Awas Yojana (Urban), suggesting adjustments to the current funding model to improve cash flow and promote sustainable project implementation, including the application of a 40:40:20 model for private land.

Empowering Communities: Housing and Transportation Initiatives-The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for simplified home loan procedures for the economically weaker sections (EWS). Clear guidelines for banks and financial institutions are sought to ensure easier access to home loans for low-income families. Finally, extending the RRTS route from Meerut to Haridwar is proposed to boost connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and stimulate economic development in the region, linking Uttarakhand more effectively with Delhi.
