Congress Rally in Mhow: A Political Campaign to Expose BJP’s Anti-Dalit Views

Bhopal: The Congress party is aiming to create a nationwide impact with its upcoming rally in Mhow, the birthplace of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, scheduled for Monday in Madhya Pradesh. The rally marks the launch of the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ campaign, with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and MP Priyanka Vadra in attendance. The party’s goal is clear: it wants to position itself as a true supporter of Dr. Ambedkar while portraying the BJP as his opponent. In the ongoing political contest between Congress and BJP for the Dalit vote in India, which is heavily influenced by Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy, Congress plans to move forward using concrete examples. Through this campaign, Congress intends to highlight instances across the country that allegedly show how the BJP not only opposes Dalits but also despises them. Congress has prepared evidence from Gujarat, where it claims BJP leaders referred to Dalits as “mentally retarded” and denied them their rights. They also argue that BJP leaders have repeatedly undermined Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions, calling him impure and questioning his significance.

BJP’s Counterattack On the other side, the BJP has also taken a stand, accusing Congress of insulting Dr. Ambedkar. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, one of the most vocal critics in this matter, has presented several historical examples, accusing leaders from Jawaharlal Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of being anti-Ambedkar. Dr. Yadav argued that during Nehru’s tenure as Prime Minister, Ambedkar was never entrusted with any significant responsibilities, and was consistently sidelined from crucial decisions regarding national elections and development. He further stated that Rajiv Gandhi belittled Ambedkar’s legacy, especially in his opposition to reservations. According to Yadav, the Congress party never truly acknowledged Ambedkar’s contributions while in power. In contrast, the BJP claims to have always honored Ambedkar’s thoughts and works, emphasizing his contributions from the development of his birthplace Mhow to his impact on the nation’s growth.
