The BJP is organizing a fortnight-long event in Uttarakhand to celebrate Bihar Day, and the moment this news broke out, Congress launched a scathing attack on the party. The opposition alleges that BJP suddenly remembers Bihar Day only when elections are near. The controversy comes on the heels of a political uproar over BJP MLA Premchand Aggarwal’s remarks about the hills, which forced him to resign. That issue hadn’t even cooled down when a new debate erupted over the celebration of Bihar Day in Uttarakhand. Congress has criticized the BJP, saying that while issues like development and employment remain unresolved in Uttarakhand, the ruling party is more focused on organizing Bihar Day. The opposition has been targeting the BJP since the municipal elections in Rishikesh when Shambhu Paswan, originally from Bihar, contested and won. This matter had already gained traction back then, and after Premchand Aggarwal’s resignation, the discussion has reignited.

Now, with the BJP going ahead with Bihar Day celebrations in Uttarakhand, the political temperature has risen once again. The event is being led by senior BJP leader Rajesh Shukla, who stated that the program aims to bring together the Bihar-origin community residing in Uttarakhand. Congress and several other organizations have openly opposed this move. Former state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal sarcastically questioned, “Does the Bihar government or BJP celebrate Uttarakhand Day in Bihar? The government should answer this.” He further alleged that by making a Bihar-origin candidate the mayor of Rishikesh, the BJP wants to showcase the growing influence of Bihar natives in Uttarakhand. According to him, this is why the party is celebrating Bihar Day. He also accused the BJP of remembering Bihar Day only when elections are approaching, making it clear that the political battle over this event is far from over.
