ADB delegation meets Minister Tetwal

Bhopal: The Portfolio Management Mission Team of Asian Development Bank (ADB), which was on a visit to Madhya Pradesh, met Minister of State for Skill Development and Employment (Independent Charge) Shri Gautam Tetwal and discussed in detail the progress and impact of ADB-assisted projects. Minister Tetwal told the delegation that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the state government is giving top priority to skill development of youth. Mentioning the success of Sant Shiromani Ravidas Global Skills Park, he said that the youth trained here are getting employment in the country as well as abroad, which is a direct proof of the quality of the institute and the training system in accordance with international standards. Minister Shri Tetwal directed the officials to seriously follow the suggestions given by ADB and ensure timely implementation. During the two-day stay on 21 and 22 July, the ADB Mission Team visited SSRGSP in the capital Bhopal and observed the modern training system, infrastructure and innovation-based working system of the institute. The team members directly interacted with the trainees to know their experiences and wished them a bright future. The representatives appreciated the quality training system of SSRGSP and called it an exemplary model in the field of skill development.

The CEO of the institute, Mr. Girish Sharma, informed the team about the achievements of the institute, industry partnership model, innovation based training and high placement rate. He said that SSRGSP has become an inspirational model of skill based education, which is connecting the youth with global opportunities. In the ADB review meeting, as per the guidance of Chief Minister Yadav, there was an in-depth discussion on the progress of ADB assisted projects being run in the state, quality of implementation, risk assessment and management strategies. Madhya Pradesh Skill Development Project (MP-SDP), Irrigation Efficiency Improvement Project, Urban Service Improvement Project, Road Network Connectivity and Resilience Project and Public-Private Partnership based Road Development Projects were also reviewed in the meeting. Representatives of the concerned departments and project units shared ground experiences, achievements and challenges being faced.

The main objective of the ADB Mission visit is to identify risks in the projects being run in the state, evaluate the process of their resolution and prepare a draft of ‘Project Implementation Handbook’ (PIH) based on experiences. This handbook will prove to be a practical guide in the process of project planning, execution, monitoring and closure, in which transparency and risk management will be given special importance. This visit of ADB Mission not only certifies the quality of institutions like SSRGSP at the global level, but is also considered an important achievement towards strengthening transparency, quality and result-oriented approach in the development projects of Madhya Pradesh. Senior officials of ADB Headquarters in Manila (Philippines) and India Office participated in this high-level mission. The delegation included Principal Portfolio Management Specialist Mr. Yuji Ono, Senior Portfolio Management Officer Ms. Pamela Barrameda, Advisor Mr. Hans Carlson and Operations Officer and Mission Coordinator Mr. Akhilesh Samyal. The mission representatives visited various project sites for two days and also interacted with the representatives of the implementation units.
