Alert regarding bird flu in Dehradun: Increased vigil on poultry farms, instructions to doctors for sampling

Dehradun on High Alert: Avian Flu Prevention Measures in Full Swing- Dehradun is taking proactive steps to prevent the spread of avian flu. Authorities are closely monitoring poultry farms and implementing strict measures to ensure public safety.

Poultry Farms Under Surveillance- With thousands of birds in each farm, poultry farms are under intense scrutiny. Regular inspections are being conducted to detect any signs of illness among the birds. Strict biosecurity protocols are being enforced to minimize the risk of infection.

Veterinary Services on High Alert- An advisory has been issued to approximately 30 major animal hospitals and 50 smaller dispensaries across the state. Veterinarians have been instructed to collect blood samples immediately if avian flu is suspected and send them to a lab in Rishikesh for prompt testing. Early detection is crucial for effective control measures.

Sanitation and Disinfection: A Top Priority- Poultry farms and cattle sheds are being regularly disinfected with insecticides. Maintaining a high level of cleanliness is essential in preventing the spread of disease. This includes regular cleaning and proper waste disposal.

Swift Action: Sample Collection at First Sign of Illness- Although no cases of avian flu have been reported in Dehradun yet, veterinarians have been instructed to collect samples immediately if any bird shows symptoms. This proactive approach will help to contain any potential outbreak quickly.

Monitoring Supply Chains from Neighboring Districts- Authorities are also monitoring the supply of poultry from neighboring districts such as Bijnor, Moradabad, Saharanpur, and Muzaffarnagar. These districts frequently supply poultry to Dehradun and other areas, so monitoring their supply chains is crucial to prevent the spread of any potential infection.

Focused Attention on High-Risk Areas- Areas like Doiwala, Raipur, Sahaspur, and Vikasnagar, known for large-scale poultry farming, are under particularly close observation. Regular inspections and record-keeping are being implemented to ensure the situation remains under control.
