
Tragic Accident in Uttarkashi: One Dead, Five Injured After Vehicle Falls Into Gorge
A major accident took place in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, where a vehicle lost control and plunged into a deep gorge near Phafarala in the Mori police station area. The vehicle was carrying six passengers, including a former village head, who unfortunately died on the spot. The vehicle was en route from Jakhola to Sankri when the accident occurred.
Rescue Operation by SDRF
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) received an alert about the accident on the night of February 20, 2025. The rescue team quickly reached the location and found that the vehicle (UK 07 CA 2401 Kemper) had veered off the road and crashed into a 20-30 meter deep gorge nearly 2 km before Phafarala.
By the time the SDRF team arrived, five injured passengers had already been rescued by local police and villagers and were taken to the hospital via ambulance.
One Passenger Trapped, Found Dead
One individual remained trapped inside the vehicle and was found dead at the scene. The SDRF team had to use rescue tools to cut through the wreckage and retrieve the deceased. The body was then handed over to the district police for further legal proceedings.

- Sulochana (19), wife of Rajendra, resident of Dauni, Uttarkashi
Deceased:
- Horulal (43), son of Neeru, resident of Dauni, Uttarkashi
The accident has left the local community in shock, and authorities are investigating the cause of the mishap.
