These are the wealthy beggars. A woman found 85,000 rupees, another had come to Indore after making a reservation.

Indore: You know how some people turn anything into a business? Well, in Indore, some folks have actually made begging their way to make a living. And it’s not just local folks, beggars from other parts of India are coming to Indore and making good money from begging. Just the other day, the Women and Child Development team caught a woman begging near the mosque on MG Road. When they checked her bag, they found a whopping 40,000 rupees! She had another 45,000 rupees tucked away in different purses. Talk about a successful “business”!

This woman, they found out, lives near mosques and begs for money. And she’s not the only one. Another beggar they rescued that same day had 20,000 rupees on him, all from begging. This guy had come all the way from Andhra Pradesh to make some cash in Indore. They found his train ticket and reservation form – he even had a railway pass from Kurnool. The collector in Indore has made it clear that anyone caught begging or giving alms will be reported to the police. It’s a serious offense now. And it’s not like they’re just letting these beggars roam free. The Women and Child Development Department has been working hard to get rid of begging in the city. They’ve already helped over 300 beggars get back on their feet and sent them to the Seva Dham in Ujjain for rehabilitation.
