Zomato – Big news for Zomato users! The well-known food delivery company is renaming itself as ‘Eternal Limited’, and the board has already approved the change. But don’t worry—the Zomato app will still be called Zomato, and nothing will change for customers ordering food. So, what’s the reason behind this sudden name change? Let’s break it down!
Why is Zomato Changing Its Name – Zomato recently revealed in a stock exchange filing that since acquiring Blinkit, the company has been internally using the name ‘Eternal’ instead of Zomato. This was done to create a clear distinction between the parent company and its different brands, like Zomato (food delivery) and Blinkit (quick commerce).
Co-founder Deepinder Goyal explained the decision, saying, “We always believed that when Zomato grew beyond just food delivery and reached a major milestone, we would rename the company as ‘Eternal.’ Now, with Blinkit’s success, we feel the time is right.”
Will the Zomato App Name Change – The good news for Zomato users is that nothing is changing on the app—you can still order food just like before. The brand name Zomato will remain the same, and there will be no changes in how the app functions. However, on the stock exchange, Zomato Limited will now be known as Eternal Limited.
What Falls Under ‘Eternal’ Now?
With this rebranding, Eternal Limited will oversee four key businesses:
Zomato – Food delivery and dining services
Blinkit – Instant grocery and quick commerce
Hyperpure – Restaurant supply chain solutions
District – Ticket booking and dining experiences
This shift shows how Zomato (now Eternal) is expanding beyond food delivery into multiple service categories.
Zomato’s Financial Growth & Expansion Plans – The name change comes at a time when Zomato’s net profit has dropped by 57% in the third quarter of FY25, falling to ₹59 crore, compared to ₹176 crore in the same period last year. However, the company’s operating revenue saw a 64% increase, reaching ₹5,404 crore. Meanwhile, Blinkit is set for major expansion. Zomato plans to open 1,000 new Blinkit stores across India by the end of this year, strengthening its position in the quick commerce industry.
