With Mandal and District Elections Done, BJP Prepares to Choose Its Next State President

The Uttarakhand BJP has completed the election process for Mandal and District Presidents, and now the focus shifts to selecting the State President. Several candidates are in the race for the position, with current State President Mahendra Bhatt being considered a strong contender for re-election. Along with him, names like Khajan Das and Vinod Chamoli, both sitting MLAs, are also being discussed. Additionally, Aditya Kothari and Deepti Rawat have emerged as potential candidates, with Rawat being a strong female contender. BJP’s state election officer, Khajan Das, stated that after announcing the names of more than two-thirds of the Mandal Presidents and 18 out of 19 District Presidents, the party is now moving forward with the selection process for the State President. He confirmed that the names of District Presidents across all 18 organizational districts of the state have been officially declared. The election for Mandal Presidents was conducted first, with 220 out of 304 Mandals completing the selection process. The remaining 84 Mandals will have their Presidents announced soon. Following this, the District President elections took place, starting on February 21. All 19 districts completed the election process, and 18 district presidents have been officially announced so far.
According to Khajan Das, the selection process followed the party’s established guidelines, ensuring that leadership choices were made with a focus on social, regional, and community representation. The final selections were based on dedication to the party and leadership abilities. After discussions at the state level, the list was approved by the central leadership following consultations with the Chief Minister. Before these elections, the party had first formed booth-level committees and conducted elections for booth presidents. As per party rules, once more than 50% of booth presidents were elected, the Mandal President selection process began. Since over two-thirds of Mandal Presidents were elected, the party was able to proceed with the District President elections, which have now been successfully completed.
