Will the water level of Narmada rise further? Danger increased due to opening of 21 gates of Omkareshwar dam

Narmada River’s Water Level Rises Dangerously Due to Heavy Rainfall
Rising Waters and Dam Releases-Continuous heavy rainfall in Omkareshwar and surrounding areas has caused the Narmada River’s water level to rise dramatically. Authorities responded by opening 12 gates at the Indira Sagar Dam and 9 gates at the Omkareshwar Dam on Sunday. This released approximately 3500 cumecs of water directly, with an additional 1860 cumecs released through turbine operations. Consequently, several ghats, including Omkareshwar, Badwah, and Khedhi Ghat, are completely submerged.
Urgent Alert and Safety Measures-With the Narmada’s water level rising rapidly, authorities are on high alert. Announcements are being made in low-lying settlements to warn residents. Brahmpuri Ghat is completely closed, and boat operations are banned. Shops in the Badwah Navaghatkhedi area have been removed as a precaution. The administrations of Khargone, Dhar, Barwani, and Maheshwar have also been instructed to remain vigilant and prepared for immediate action should the situation worsen.
Further Gate Openings Possible; Tourists Urged to Exercise Caution-Officials warn that if the intensity of rainfall continues, more gates at the Omkareshwar Dam may be opened. Residents near the ghats are advised to remain cautious. Pilgrims and tourists are urged to stay away from the riverbanks and follow official instructions. The rising water level poses a significant risk, and everyone is advised to remain in safe areas.
