Why did he not work with Aamir after 'Ghulam'? Vikram Bhatt told the reason
Today it will be almost difficult for people to believe the fact that Vikram Bhatt, who is known for horror films, once made a film like ‘Ghulam’ with Aamir Khan. This gangster drama type film also won Vikram the Filmfare Award for Best Director. Now Vikram has told that there is a very twisted story behind directing ‘Ghulam’. Earlier this film was snatched away from him and Mahesh Bhatt was going to direct it himself, but then things changed and finally he got the responsibility of bringing this script on screen. Vikram also told why he did not work with Aamir after ‘Ghulam’.
‘Ghulam’ was snatched away from Vikram
Talking to News 18, Vikram said, ‘I had worked with Aamir on ‘Dila Hai Ki Manta Nahi’ and ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar’. Then I was offered his brother’s film ‘Madhosh’ which did not do very well. I directed it. Before (Mahesh) Bhatt sahab, I was the one who was going to do ‘Ghulam’. Earlier it was called something else. Then my first film ‘Jaanam’ flopped. Mukesh (Bhatt) fired me from the company and took away this Aamir Khan film from me.’
Vikram further said that luckily he started working with the Bhatt brothers again and his film ‘Fareb’ became successful. But then a time came when Mahesh Bhatt decided that he will not direct films anymore and he did not want to be remembered as a director who has made nothing else except ‘Ghulam’. That means he knew that the popularity of ‘Ghulam’ will overshadow all his work. ‘He said that it is not important for me. And Aamir wanted someone who works very dedicatedly. That’s how I got ‘Ghulam”, said Vikram
