Anasuya Sen Gupta has created history in the 77th edition of Cannes Film Festival. Once again Indians have held their heads high with pride. Kolkata-based Anasuya has become the first Indian to win the Best Actress Award at the world famous Cannes Film Festival. He has received this award for the film ‘Shameless’. The film has been directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Constantin Bojanov. Anousaya has played the role of a sex worker in this film.

The story of the film is based on a sex worker who escapes from a Delhi brothel after stabbing a policeman. Anasuya was chosen Best Actress in the Un Certain Regard segment of the Cannes Film Festival. Anousaya has dedicated her award to the bravery of the gay community and people living marginalized lives around the world. In his speech after being honored with this award, he said, you do not need to be gay to fight for equality for all. We just need to be very, very decent human beings.
