“Uttarakhand’s Name Change Controversy: ‘Rename It Uttar Pradesh-2,’ Says This Politician”

On Monday, March 31, the Uttarakhand government made an announcement about changing the names of 15 locations across four districts – Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar. This move by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has sparked widespread debate. While some people on social media are supporting the decision, others are strongly opposing it. Amidst all this, a new demand has emerged to rename Uttarakhand as “Uttar Pradesh-2.”
Why the Names Were Changed
CM Dhami explained that the decision to change the names of these places was made considering “public sentiment, Indian culture, and heritage.” The aim is to inspire people by honoring those great individuals who contributed to the preservation of Indian culture.
Demand to Rename Uttarakhand
In response to the name-change decision, former Uttar Pradesh CM and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav sarcastically suggested, “Why not rename Uttarakhand as Uttar Pradesh-2? Just link it to Uttar Pradesh.”
