Uttarakhand Tourism Must Thrive Year-Round, Says PM Modi

PM Modi in Uttarkashi: Emphasizes Year-Round Tourism and Development in Uttarakhand On Thursday, March 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Uttarkashi and offered prayers at Mukhba, the winter abode of Goddess Ganga. Following this, he addressed a public gathering in Harsil, where he highlighted the importance of winter tourism. During his speech, PM Modi stated, “There should be no off-season for tourism.” Speaking in Uttarkashi, he expressed his reverence for the land of Uttarakhand, calling it “a divine land blessed with spiritual energy, sacred shrines, and the holy Ganga.” He shared his happiness at visiting Mukhba again and meeting the people. PM Modi also expressed his condolences for the recent accident in Mana village, offering prayers for the deceased and acknowledging the unity shown by the nation in supporting affected families.

He emphasized that Uttarakhand is progressing with new opportunities opening up for development. The aspirations behind the creation of Uttarakhand and the commitments made for its growth are now turning into reality. He described winter tourism as a crucial step in boosting the state’s economy and congratulated the Uttarakhand government for its efforts. PM Modi stressed the need to diversify tourism in the state, making it a year-round destination, stating, “Every season should be a peak season in Uttarakhand.” He highlighted that continuous tourism would help the local economy thrive. Speaking about infrastructure, he credited the double-engine government for rapid development, mentioning major projects such as the Char Dham all-weather road, expressways, railway expansion, and improved air connectivity over the past decade. PM Modi also announced that the Union Cabinet had recently approved the Kedarnath and Hemkund ropeway projects. He noted that once the Kedarnath ropeway is completed, a journey that currently takes 8–9 hours will be reduced to just 30 minutes, making pilgrimage easier for the elderly and children.
