Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Harsil-Mukhba in Uttarkashi district on February 27 to promote winter tourism. Mukhba serves as the winter home of Gangotri Dham. The state government has ramped up preparations for the visit, with Chief Secretary Radha Raturi scheduled to visit Harsil-Mukhba to review arrangements. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed optimism, stating that he had invited PM Modi to promote winter tourism. He believes the visit will give a significant boost to the initiative. According to CM Dhami, winter tourism could become a game-changer for Uttarakhand’s economy, ensuring year-round employment for local businesses that typically see a downturn after the regular pilgrimage season ends. He also emphasized that every time the Prime Minister visits Uttarakhand, the state benefits in meaningful ways.

Preparations in Full Swing

Authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth visit. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi held a meeting with officials to finalize the event’s blueprint and assess security protocols. She instructed that all preparations should align with the designated protocols and security guidelines. Additionally, she plans to personally visit Harsil-Mukhba to inspect the arrangements. The Chief Secretary also directed officials to ensure seamless arrangements for PM Modi’s visit to Mukhba Temple, along with his proposed public address in Harsil. She emphasized the need for well-organized parking and transportation facilities. Furthermore, she instructed the tourism department to set up an exhibition showcasing Uttarakhand’s winter tourist destinations and local products.

Infrastructure Upgrades for the Visit

District Magistrate Dr. Mehraban Singh Bisht confirmed that all necessary arrangements are being made. The premises of the Horticulture Department in Harsil have been leveled for the event. The temple and nearby village structures have been beautified, and a safe and convenient pathway to the temple has been constructed. Road infrastructure in the Harsil-Mukhba region is also being upgraded. The road leading to the Bagori Helipad in Harsil is nearing completion, and additional nearby helipads are being reinforced. Parking facilities are being developed in both Harsil and Mukhba, as well as along the Gangotri Highway. Additionally, three new smart toilets are being installed to enhance public convenience.
