Trusted Lawyer Turned Predator: 15 Years of Abuse, Blackmail & Threats

Sehore: Lawyer Who Helped Woman Get Divorce Exploited Her for 15 Years, Pressured Her to Convert for Marriage . A woman who sought a lawyer’s help for her divorce 15 years ago never imagined that the same man would take advantage of her trust. The lawyer not only helped her get divorced but also built a relationship with her under false promises of marriage. Over the years, he continuously exploited her, and when she recently insisted on marriage, he demanded that she convert to Islam first. Feeling deceived and helpless, the woman finally filed a complaint against him.

A Relationship That Started in Court

The accused, GM Khan, a resident of Bhopali Fatak in Sehore district, practices law at the district court. The woman stated that their acquaintance began when Khan represented her in her divorce case nearly 15 years ago. Once the divorce was finalized, Khan allegedly told her, “Now that you are free, I will divorce my wife and marry you.” Trusting his words, the woman continued the relationship. On May 20, 2011, Khan visited her home and, under the false promise of marriage, established physical relations with her. Over time, their relationship continued, with Khan frequently visiting her home. However, feeling used, the woman eventually asked him to stop coming over. Despite this, in September 2024, Khan once again came to her home and repeated his pattern—giving false hopes of marriage and exploiting her trust. When she finally confronted him about when they would get married, his shocking response was:
“I will marry you only if you convert to Islam.”

Blackmail and Threats

In October 2024, Khan suffered a paralysis attack, but even after recovering, his behavior did not change. On February 22, 2025, he visited the woman’s home again—this time with a threat. He allegedly told her, “I have your obscene photos and videos. If you don’t convert, I will spread them everywhere.” He also threatened to kill her if she reported him to anyone. Fearing for her safety, the woman finally gathered the courage to approach the Kotwali police station and file a complaint against him. Based on her complaint, the police have registered a case under sections of the IPC and the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act (Sections 3 & 5). Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are looking into the allegations.
