Tourists getting attracted by dead leaf butterfly in Bhoramdev Sanctuary

Kawardha. Bhoramdev Sanctuary of Kawardha is famous for its biodiversity. But there is another creature here which is attracting tourists. We are talking about the Dead Leaf Butterfly, which was selected as the national butterfly of the country in the year 2020. Apart from the Dead Leaf Butterfly, 20 other species of butterflies are found here which attract tourists. According to the information received from Kawardha Forest Divisional Officer Shashi Kumar, Dr. Ravikant Das, a wildlife lover and senior orthopedic specialist and professor of SIMS, had visited Bhoramdev Sanctuary on 10-11 April, where he saw the national butterfly – Orange Oak Leaf Butterfly. ) (Kalimbainachu) was seen.

Dr. Ravikant Das told that he got the opportunity to see the Orange Oak Leaf Butterfly (Dead Leaf Butterfly) (Kalimbainachu) in the sanctuary which was selected as the national butterfly of the country in the year 2020. It should be known that whenever an example of camouflage is given by living beings, the name of dead leaf is taken first. When it closes its wings, it makes the sound of a dry leaf and thus deceives its predators. If any predatory creature attacks it during its flight, it closes its wings and hides in a pile of dry leaves on the ground and the hunter is unable to find it even after millions of efforts, but there is no example of its beauty in open wings. Not there. The wide orange straps in the dark light blue cover look very attractive. This is the reason why it has got the status of national butterfly. Their presence makes Bhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary special and adds to its fame. Compared to other butterflies, it is very difficult to find them, because they do not fly like other butterflies but remain stuck on the trunk or leaves of trees without any movement and fly rarely, for a very short time and very rarely. When I was taking photos at a high speed, it flew away so quickly that I did not get a chance to take photos with its open wings, and after flying it was not known where it disappeared.
The trail of Bhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary is unique in which the Sakri River, the lifeblood of the sanctuary, has to be crossed 23 times and there is also a very beautiful waterfall on the way. Apart from Orange Oak Leaf Butterfly (Kalimbainachus), 20 other butterflies were seen which included Golden Flat, Double Banded Judy, Common Jazbel, Tiger Blue, Plain Tiger, Striped Tiger, Common Crow, Baronet, Gray Count, Evening Brown, Common Sailor, Red Flash, Oak Blue, Zebra Blue, Leopard, Pierrette, Common Mime, Emigrant, Lemon Yellow, Grass Blue, Gray Pansy, Chocolate Pansy, Blue Pansy, Yellow Pansy, Lemon Pansy, etc. are the major ones, as well as 19 types Birds also seen included Crested Serpent Eagle, White Eyed Buzzard, Emerald Dove, Turtle Dove, Colored Dove, Jungle Owlet, White Breasted Kingfisher, Little Cormorant, Indian Roller, oriental magpie robin, Wagtail, Green Leaf Bird, Alexandrine Parakeet, Timnich Timniks Stint, Bulbul, Myna, Weaver Bird (Caucal), Hill Crow, Hawk Cuckoo etc. are prominent.
