Tomato prices may increase in the coming days
Tomatoes may empty the pockets of people in the coming time. The reason for this is the attack of pests and diseases in tomato crop, which has troubled the farmers of Niphad in Nashik district of Maharashtra. The problem of serpentine leaf miner in tomato is increasing continuously. It is the larva of a small fly (Liriomyza brassicae), which damages tomato and other vegetable crops.
The review report of the Crop Weather Watch Group released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare states that the intensity of pests and diseases in tomato in Niphad area in Nashik district has reached above the economic threshold level (ETL). ETL is the point at which the population of a disease or pest reaches a certain level, where control measures should be started to prevent economic loss. But, despite the warning, concrete steps are not being taken.
