T20 World Cup: McGurk can join Australia team

After the IPL 2024 season, the T20 World Cup is to be organized in America and West Indies. Many countries including India have declared their teams for this global tournament. Australia had also announced its team for the T20 World Cup to be held from June 2. Australian batsman Jack Fraser McGurk performed strongly in the IPL 2024 season. He played stormy innings while playing for Delhi Capitals, but the Kangaroo team did not give him a place in the 15-member players. It is believed that Cricket Australia may include McGurk in the team as a reserve player. Apart from McGurk, Matthew Short will also be a reserve player.

McGurk could not make his debut in T20
McGurk, who has not yet made his debut in T20 International cricket, has not got a place in the T20 World Cup squad as Australia already has David Warner, Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh for the top three spots. Batting all-rounder Short has played nine out of the last 14 T20 matches for Australia. He started the innings in five of these and has also played Big Bash League in the last two seasons.

The team will leave on Thursday
According to media reports, Australia’s chief selector George Bailey had suggested that they would take a reserve with them in the World Cup but now they are taking McGurk along with Short. The Australian team will leave for West Indies on Thursday. It has to play two practice matches against Namibia and West Indies on 28 and 30 May in Trinidad. Head, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell will join the team after playing the IPL playoffs. According to ICC rules, only players included in the 15-member team can participate in the World Cup. Australia has to play its first match against Oman in Barbados on June 5.
