Surana & Surana Judex 2.0 – National Human Rights Law Moot Court Competition, 2024 successfully organised at Kalinga University
Raipur. Kalinga University, Raipur is a renowned educational institution in Central India and has emerged as a centre of excellence in higher education. The University not only focuses on quality education but also emphasizes on the holistic development of students. With this objective in mind, Surana & Surana Judex 2.0: National Human Rights Law Moot Court Competition, 2024, in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Chennai, India, was successfully concluded on August 17, 2024 at Kalinga University, Raipur, witnessing an exceptional display of legal acumen and advocacy skills. This signature event for aspiring legal professionals brought together top talents from across the country and showcased the University’s commitment to promoting legal excellence.
The Guest of Honour for the inaugural competition was Hon’ble Justice Umesh Chandra Dhyani, Retired Judge, Uttarakhand High Court and Chairman, Uttarakhand Public Service Tribunal.
20 law schools participated in this competition where Tamil Nadu Ambedkar Law University emerged as the champion and bagged the top honours in this prestigious competition and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, School of Law, Bhubaneswar emerged as the runner-up demonstrating remarkable legal acumen. Special recognition was also given to Sayantika Roy of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, School of Law, Bhubaneswar who was awarded the Best Student Advocate for her outstanding performance during the competition.
The competition, organized annually by Kalinga University, has cemented its reputation as a premier platform for law students to hone their skills, engage in rigorous legal debates and showcase their advocacy skills. This year’s edition, which is now a part of the history of the Institute, was characterized by exceptional performances and an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of justice.
Highlights of the 4th National Moot Court Competition:
Impressive Participation: The competition saw an impressive number of participants including law students from thirty prestigious institutions. This diverse group of legal minds contributed to an atmosphere of intellectual rigor and healthy competition.
Thematic Excellence: The moot court problem presented challenging legal issues, reflecting contemporary concerns and recent developments in the legal landscape. Participants demonstrated their ability to dissect complex legal problems with accuracy and creativity.
Eminent Panel of Judges: Eminent legal professionals and academicians served as judges, providing invaluable feedback and evaluating the performance of the participants with expertise and objectivity. For the competitive finalists, the jury was constituted by Advocate Vedant Bhelonde, Practicing Advocate, Bilaspur High Court, Chhattisgarh; Advocate Lukesh Mishra, Senior Advocate, Bilaspur High Court, Chhattisgarh and Advocate Pragalbh Sharma, Associate of Pransh Law Associates, Raipur Chhattisgarh.
Winners and Awards: The competition concluded with a grand awards ceremony, where the winners were felicitated for their outstanding performance. The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 21000/-, the runners-up were awarded Rs. 11000/-, while Sayantika Roy of KIIT School of Law, who was awarded as the Best Student Advocate, was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 6000/- and the Best Researcher was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 4000/-.
The closing ceremony was graced by the auspicious presence of the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Justice T.P. Sharma, Retired Judge, Chhattisgarh High Court.
Dr. R. Sridhar, Vice Chancellor, Kalinga University also graced the event with his presence and underlined the University’s commitment to promote legal education and advocacy. Mr. Pritam Surana, Partner, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, an eminent personality in the legal field was also present, adding to the prestige of the event.
Prof. (Dr.) Azim Pathan, Dean, Faculty of Law, Kalinga University, who played a key role in organizing the competition, provided the highlights of the event. He emphasized the importance of such platforms in nurturing the next generation of legal professionals and promoting a deeper understanding of human rights law among students.
Finally, Mrs. Saloni Tyagi Shrivastava, Head of the Department, Faculty of Law, Kalinga University, graciously presented the vote of thanks.
